2026 Week 42 Price Commentary
Butadiene surged, then pulled back โ but synthetic rubber barely flinched.
๐ The core story is Bd. Butadiene spiked to 14,125 on supply fears, then retraced to 13,495. Yet PBR (-1%), ESBR (-1.6%) and even SSBR (+1.3%) held their ground โ because downstream demand is genuinely firm, not fading.
๐ Why synthetics are resilient: Domestic tire prices just moved up โ TBR ~+2%, PCR ~+6% โ giving processors room to absorb the cost swing. Demand, not speculation, is holding this market up.
โซ N660's dip is a raw-material story. Carbon black's correction tracks feedstock (coal tar) volatility, not a demand problem.
๐ฎ Looking ahead: With the US midterms in play, Middle East instability isn't going away โ expect butadiene and synthetic rubber to stay choppy and range-bound rather than trend in either direction.
Volatility in the feedstock, stability in the demand. That's the setup heading into Q4.
