2026 Week 35 Price Commentary
Market Review and Reasons
Butadiene prices surged at the beginning of the week due to plant maintenance and low inventory levels. Later, multiple plants restarted, coupled with downstream processing losses and only immediate demand, causing prices to fall from their highs.
Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and butadiene rubber (BR) closely followed raw material fluctuations. Driven by butadiene costs, prices rebounded slightly, but weak tire orders hampered the downward transmission of price increases, limiting the rebound's momentum.
Natural rubber prices fluctuated within a range. Rainfall in Thailand delayed new rubber production, and destocking in bonded areas provided support. However, Southeast Asia is gradually entering its peak production season, and weak end-user demand limited price increases.
Market Outlook
Butadiene inventories remain supportive in the short term. With subsequent restarts of maintenance plants, supply is expected to ease, leading to high-level fluctuations with a slightly weaker overall trend.
Synthetic rubber prices continue to be dependent on butadiene prices. A substantial restocking of tires during the peak season of September and October is needed for a sustained upward trend.
Natural rubber prices are supported by weather and destocking in the short term, but increasing production pressure is gradually emerging. Until tire demand improves significantly, prices are expected to remain range-bound.
